{Wedding Etiquette} You’re paying for what?!
We get the question all the time of who pays for what when it comes to menswear for a wedding. Sometimes we even get the shocked groomsman picking up his tux (on the day before the wedding) who was completely unaware of his responsibility to pay for his own attire. There are lots of things you are required to pay for as the bride and groom, but your bridal party’s attire is not necessarily one of them. Here’s our take on the proper wedding etiquette for this touchy subject…
Traditionally, the bridesmaids and groomsmen are expected to purchase or rent their attire for your wedding day. It is one of the responsibilities of agreeing to be in someone’s wedding, and most people understand this commitment. However, it is a always a good idea to make sure the members of your party are aware of this before you get too far into the planning process. A great way to let them know is to include them in the shopping process. As you check out different styles and colors, ask their opinions and be openly considerate of the price. If you are making an effort to find them a good deal, they will understand that in the end they’re responsible for covering the cost.
Some couples choose to pay for the attire as the a gift to the bridal party, but it really is not “required.” And most of the time your bridal party will be very understanding of this.
